9-Minute Qi Gong Routine to Clear Other Peoples’ Energy and Stay Centered This Holiday Season

Clear Other People's Energy and Stay Centered

The holiday season is here, which means that you might find yourself in many different social situations and celebrations over the next six weeks. While such occasions can be fun and exciting, they can also be challenging at times.

For many people, large holiday gatherings can be a bit overstimulating. Additionally, it’s not uncommon for deep-seated family dynamics to re-emerge in ways that can be emotionally activating. When that happens, it’s not always easy to fully enjoy the festivities with those you care about.

Chinese Medicine and Qi Gong offer some important principles and practices that can help you let go of others’ energy and stay centered during the holidays, or any time for that matter. In this blog, you’ll discover some of those principles, and learn a nine-minute Qi Gong routine that can help you stay grounded during the season’s social gatherings.

How to Stay Grounded in Social Situations

Do you ever feel the opinions or emotions of others affecting your internal energy? If so, you’re not alone.

Humans are social creatures, which means that we feed off each other’s energy. Often, this can be a positive thing. Feeling excitement or joy when connecting with friends or family members is certainly a rewarding experience. However, there’s a point at which external social stimulation can start to push you away from your center. That can happen much more quickly in certain situations.

In Chinese Medicine and Qi Gong, each person has their own protective energy called Wei Qi. Your Wei Qi helps fend off external energies (i.e., Noxious Qi) that could undermine your own internal well-being. Wei Qi is most known for its role in boosting your immune system, but it also helps you stay protected against other people’s energy.

Additionally, your body has the ability to naturally release noxious Qi by using specific principles. In one of our previous blogs, we discussed how you can use these principles to release old energy and boost your “social immune system.” In this blog, we put theory into practice by providing a guided Qi Gong practice that helps you clear others’ energy and cultivate social resilience.

Below, you’ll find this nine-minute routine in both a video as well as in written form.

9-Minute Qi Gong Routine to Clear Others’ Energy

To begin, stand with your feet about shoulder-width apart and let your hands rest by your sides. Take a couple deep breaths.

Now, bring your hands upward so they’re above your head and then let them fall in front of you as you do a strong exhale. On the bottom of your inhale, bend your knees slightly as you absorb the falling of your hands.

Then, bring your hands upward again as you inhale until your hands are above your head. Do another strong exhale as you drop your hands and bend your knees slightly.

With each exhale, visualize that you’re letting go of any unwanted energy. This is a wonderful exercise for releasing others’ energy and detoxifying your system.

After a couple of minutes, bring your hands back to your side. This next exercise is called Venting.

With your hands still at your side, open your hands and face palms towards the ground. Inhale and exhale slowly.

Just like the previous exercise, visualize yourself releasing unwanted energy with each exhale. Inhale slowly, and then do a strong exhale as you send old energy through your palms to the earth below you.

The earth is great at composting old energy, so just let go of any stress or emotional baggage and let it flow out through your palms. Continue doing this exercise for another minute or two.

Now that you’ve released old energy that you’ve been holding, it’s time to cultivate strength and fortify your energy system.

For this next exercise, inhale slowly as you bring your hands up in front of you with your wrists crossed. On your inhale, cross your wrists gently as they move up to your chest. On your exhale, circle the palms of your hands so they’re facing the ground and lower them to your waist.

As you inhale and cross your wrists, visualize yourself gathering nourishing Qi and fortifying your energy system. On your exhale, imagine that you’re letting go of any remaining old energy that you want to release.

Continue doing this exercise for another minute or two.

When you’re ready, cross your wrists again as you bring them up towards your chest. This time, hold your hands in that position near your chest as you take some slow, deep breaths.

As you breathe, visualize a field of golden light surrounding you. Visualize that golden light as a field that keeps you protected against any energies that you don’t want to let into your mind or body.

Continue breathing slowly for a minute or two as you visualize the golden field of protective energy around you growing stronger. When you’re ready, take one more deep breath and take that feeling with you into the rest of your day.
